For Extra Sanity

I have a Sanity Meter

My meter regularly has an arrow

that floats in the area of US Far Left

It spikes Far Right

when I fall for

believing in

all I am hearing reading and thinking –

going along with a reactive defensive group think –

without fact checking

like millions of citizens do –

this is an error

I replenish and boost and maintain

my Extra Sanity

as a poet

using language as a map, not a rule

Regularly checking my heart’s pulse and my brain pressure

for any fluctuating

caused by the guck and clog up

of false assumptions

pretend and black&white thinking

if we can call that thinking
