How to grow a garden?
Be aware of the death denying.
Move in a branch of OSHA – Occupational Safety & Health Administration.
Today my toe ripped & stitched –
next up
a tetnus shot.
Gone are the bare feet
among the vegetables.
I get it why people won’t garden
even when have plenty of time, plenty of money
and the interest and the grit.
The goals and fulfillments
of the Sun’s job to burn skin,
and the bacteria’s, pollen’s, dust’s and rat’s urine invasions are successful at reaching their destinations,
unless you dress up like a surgeon in surgery wearing gardening boots.
Adding even more work for OSHA in the garden to do,
are the sharp tools, poisonous & itchy plants
and chemicals. Yes, in Puerto Rico, organic gardening is laughed at, disrespected and ignored
by the fire ants.
How did I last so long
in 50 years with my gardening?
My brain
pushed and shoveled through,
turned over, pulled up, as it usually has,
believing it is invincible and that it will never die.
That’s its weakness and its strength.
The shots at the ER into my toe woke it up.
The time is up.
I am rolling up and putting away the weed barrier
between my denial and better thinking,
and stop dressing in my garden,
like a freedom lover surfer,
daring to be Wiped Out.
